INSTANT DESSERT! a.k.a. The easiest “ice-cream” recipe in the entire world

Posted by andrea in: Easy ways to make kids happy| Recipes and Food

Banana "ice cream"

I used to make this all the time when the girls were small. I called it ice cream even though it doesn’t really qualify. There’s no cream in this ice cream. Or milk. And there’s no added sugar either.

There’s only one ingredient, and it’s probably something you have in your home right now: bananas. You’ll need three or four bananas to make four servings.

Here’s the how-to:

  1. 1) Take your spotted almost-too-ripe-to-eat bananas (we call them giraffe bananas), peel them, break them into 1-2″ chunks, toss them into a container and pop it into the freezer. It takes us a few weeks to accumulate enough bananas (they get eaten pretty fast around here).
  2. 2) Ready to make it? Thaw the bananas for 5 or 10 minutes and throw them into your blender.
  3. 3) Blend.
  4. 4) Serve.

The consistency is amazingly similar to real ice cream, and it’s actually quite sweet.

Let me know if you try this one. I think you’ll be surprised at how yummy it is.

I’ve been making this tasty treat for sometime now. So refreshing and guilt free. Sometimes I throw in a bit of chocolate protein powder or some vanilla yogurt. I’ve also added in some frozen strawberries. Nothing like some cool banana “ice cream” in the evening.

Agree! it is delicious! I’ve been making this for years this way: 1 frozen banana+1tb cocoa powder + 1/2 tsp vanilla extract all in food processor. Yum - chocolate ice cream. One thing to remember is to eat it right away since as it thaws the texture gets a bit gooey.

hmmmm looks awesome! I am going to have to give it try for the kidlet. He is getting bored with his regular food and we need to add a few more easy ones to the list!

It probably needs some garnishing to look better… The picture probably doesn’t do it credit.

As long as the kids eat it, that’s all I care about. But maybe next time I will add a sprig of mint and a sprinkle of fresh rasperries. ;)
