My latest piece fo SavvyMom is about a place called 4Cats Art Studio that opened in Hintonburg recently. I had the chance to chat with owner and curator Emely Green about art, kids, brains, and the joys of making messes. I think you’d like her. She runs a great operation and it’s worth checking out.
It is true what Picasso said about art. It washes away the dust of everyday life.
I’d like to take a moment to welcome a new patron to the Fishbowl: Wall Space Gallery and Framing.
Wall Space is a great little place to browse (it is a gallery!) and buy cool new art (much of which is local!) [...]
A superawesome giveaway for Ottawa-area residents
Before I launch into this post I’d like to welcome a new Fishbowl sponsor… The National Arts Centre! The NAC is the epicentre of Ottawa’s arts and culture scene. Music, dance, theatre - you’ll find it all here. Did you know that the NAC is the only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre in North America? And [...]
It’s day two of summer holidays but my work goes on. I have deadlines galore. Sadly, I require near complete silence to write/think/do anything work related. (Seriously, even someone chewing on a banana in the same room makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes. Gah.)
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve already [...]
Awesome giveaway for four theatre tickets!

The girls and I visited my mother on my birthday back in August. (Hi mom!) We had birthday cake, and she gave me a gift. It was smallish, long and narrow. I tore the paper off to find [...]
It’s been busy around these parts. I feel like I need to rekindle my relationship with my own home. We just haven’t been around, like, at all.
But first, would ya look at these two girls:
Those were taken at the park behind the Parkdale Market, where we bought dried corn cobs, multicoloured organic carrots (deeelish!), bok choy, and perfect [...]
I don’t mean to go all hoity-hoity on you, but I like Things of Culture: film, art, music, literature, the theatre. It’s important to me that our kids become culturally well-rounded individuals. I don’t want to raise a couple of doobs who think Survivor is the best thing on television, that all movies should star [...]
When there’s a birthday to be celebrated there always a card to be made.
I usually give the girls a piece of white cardstock and fold it in half. Sometimes I write “Happy Birthday” on a piece of paper and the girls copy it. But otherwise the art (and the sentiment) is all of their own. [...]
