a peek inside the fishbowl

Ad info

“Andrea has struck a great balance between useful information and storytelling that keeps the Fishbowl on my ‘must read’ list. From stuff to do around town to products & services, I really appreciate the integrity that she brings to her recommendations - and it’s uncanny how often they’re spot-on what I need!”

A Fishbowl patronage isn’t just about an ad on a website. It’s a relationship.

Ad zing!Historically speaking, patronage refers to support given to a variety of artists including writers, musicians, painters, and sculptors.

My patrons support me and this website. In fact, I probably wouldn’t be here without them.

I’m very selective about who I accept as a patron. My readers are my #1 priority, so there needs to be a good fit. And if there’s a good fit, well, then I feel good about promoting my patrons, online and offline!

For an idea of the kinds of things I write about I recommend you take a look at the Categories section in the righthand sidebar. It includes things like whole foods, healthy living, family gear and travel, home design, and Ottawa. I write a lot about Ottawa and my neighborhood of Westboro too.

Interested? Some deets:

  • The Fishbowl receives an average of 1400 views per day. I have 5700+ followers on Twitter. The Fishbowl also has a growing presence on Facebook.
  • New patrons receive a focused “welcome” post linking to their respective websites and …
  • … the opportunity to host one giveaway per quarter. This is this is not required but it is a great way of generating excitement and traffic to your website and building your brand.
  • All ad images are prominently displayed in the far right-hand column under “Patronatus” and appear on every page in this blog.
  • Packages are sold in quarterly increments only (terms of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months). The term begins the day the ad image is uploaded.

For more information, rates, and technical specs please contact me for a rate card. If you’re interested in advertising in my Westboro-centric e-newsletter called the Extra Helping, make sure you mention it in your note because different rates apply. Thanks!

The Obligatory Blurb

Thank you for visiting! My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (14) and Sarah (12). I've been blogging since 1999, which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran of the Canadian blog scene, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I am the Managing Editor of Capital Parent Newspaper but also make my living doing a bunch of other fun things. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for parents and kids. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here.

  • I'm over at the terra20 blog today, writing about upcycling and recycling. I like buying one-of-a-kind items, don't you? I also like gifting them to people I know to be fence-sitters as it pertains to eco-friendly goods. Read on!
