I was open, honest and encouraged my daughter to explore independance when she was growing up; I let her sign up for an adult library card as soon as the library would permit it; I gave her a bus pass at age 12 and she felt like she had the keys to the city; I showed her that I had complete confidence in her ability to behave responsibly.
