First, the crows

Posted by andrea in: Oh! Things!

It is quite rare, for Mark and I, to find garden art that we fall in love with.

We have quite a large yard, and there’s hardly anything in it except for the kid’s toys, weedy perennials, a bird bath (from Lee Valley) and some of my own pieces made from mortar … otherwise, nada. Most lawn ornaments are just plain awful. Not to mention tacky. We’re not into gnomes, virg!ns emerging out of bushes, fountains with cherubs holding buckets of water, miniature boys holding fishing rods etc etc.

But I do like garden art – if it’s interesting – and if it lends itself well to its environment.

The other day we were walking past the window of a very cool store that specializes in antique architectural elements. (I have Googled for 10 minutes to find the actual name of it and have given up… it’s in Westboro Village though). They carry lots of lighting, fireplace grates, and they also have some bits of furniture. They have been known to carry some other interesting little items. (Like quills! They sell working quills.) Anyway, they had these cast iron crows in the window.

It was love at first sight.

Mark and I went back yesterday at lunchtime in the freezing rain because we couldn’t risk losing them.

They are the coolest. And heavy. We bought three at $25/each. Now we need to figure out where to put them.

Here they are, pictured in front of our fireplace screen in the living room. I wonder what they’re thinking?

Have you found the name of the place yet? I would like to know please – really. I have a customer who wants birds just like that. Any luck?
