Sunday outing to Saunders Farm

Yesterday I hauled my tired and sorry butt to Saunders Farm. Mark and I had been planning to take the girls for weeks, and they were excited. I had to go, even though I was feeling positively downtrodden. This cold has been dragging on since September.

Oh, and this is new: I am now popping Tylenols to alleviate a pulled muscle in my chest, this, a result of all the coughing. Ha ha. Good one. I love it when my body falls apart.

I was particularly low on energy on Sunday. The coffer doesn’t fill up when ya spend the whole night hacking and gasping for air.

We’ve been going to Saunders every October since Sarah was a baby. This year we met up with some friends. Their little girl seemed to have a great time, although the haunted wagon ride kind of freaked her out. You can’t rationalize with a frightened kid.

“Honey, that guy jumping out of the tree with the hockey mask and chainsaw is just pretend! Really! Nothing scary about it! You don’t need to cry!”

To be honest, it did seem scarier than in past years. They added a few new creepy creatures, including the chain saw guy (you thought I was kidding?) and some horrid rubbery loud dogs that leap out at you when you’re least expecting it.

Ah, Halloween.

The highlights for us (other than the wagon ride, which didn’t make anyone in our party cry) included the tree house, jumping in the hay, the amazing mazes and the Beaver Tails. No wintry Ottawa outing is complete without a Beaver Tail. Yum.

It started to drizzle as we were leaving, but the weather cooperated while we were there. I love fall days that are crispy and sunny. It was about 10C, quite pleasant if you’re wearing a hat and a couple layers of clothing.
