A sandwich-related giveaway!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Giveaways and product reviews

dress your sandwich giveaway

I haven’t quite stopped moving since yesterday. It’s still go-go-go, but today there are actually a few more things on my list. Gah! But I couldn’t sit on this post much longer. Eeep!

The super stylin’ Lavish & Lime have offered three reusable sandwich wraps for me to give away to Fishbowl readers. Yay!

Some of you may remember my posting about them earlier.

I am so happy for you, you lucky dogs. I wish I had one, er TWO, because the girls would fight over them. It’s such a great product. What’s more, this qualifies as one of those great ideas I wish I had thought of ages ago, because if I had I’d be a millionaire already. *sigh*

Anyway, here are the deets.

1) You must have a Canadian address to enter.

2) In the comments below, you need to give me the recipe for your favourite sandwich. Be truthful! It’s okay if you like peanut butter and relish. Or garlic, onion and blue cheese. No one will laugh and I will forever admire you for your honesty.

3) Posting about this on your own blog means I will enter you in the running twice. (And yes, you can use the graphic if you like.) Please let me know if you have done this by putting the URL of your post in the comments below … this, in addition to your recipe, of course.

4) Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. on November 19th 2008, at which point I will draw three random names and L & L will ship one sandwich wrap to each of you.

Get it? Any questions? Now, over to you.

Awesome contest — and if I win, I’ll just come over and pick it up :).

My favourite sandwich was invented by my younger sister — the Hummus and Havarti. Start with two slices of whole wheat bread. Spread one slice generously with hummus. Add a slice of havarti (the pre-sliced kind from the side counter at Loblaws is best, because havarti is soft and very hard to slice thin). Throw in some tomato and cucumber slices and…yum!

Grilled Cheese with Pesto. It is hard to improve on the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Yet, if you add in Pesto between the bread and cheese and use Balderson cheese (because it is soo nice but very rich), and nice bread, there is no better sandwich around. I used to like adding in ham, but the cheese never melted enough on the ham side and the sandwich didn’t hold together.

Totally brilliant!

I must confess, I’m a peanut butter and mayo fan. It sounds disgusting, but I tell you, you HAVE to try it! The mayo cuts some of the stick to the roof of your mouth gooeyness that I hate about peanut butter.

I think my fave sandwich though has to be a black forest ham and brie sandwich, on multi grain bread. A little dijon, and a few slices of advocado if I happen to have it kicking around…makes me hungry just thinking about it!

Great giveaway!

This is my comfort food and sandwich favourite all in one. Fry Maple Leaf baloney until crispy. While baloney cooks, toast whole grain bread until golden. Cover toast with Miracle Whip and Heinz Ketchup. Layer baloney on toast and cut the sandwich “party style” (four triangles like my mom did when she wanted me to feel special). Mostly I try to avoid “food-like” products but sometimes, when I want to feel my mother’s love, I try this sandwich.

Love the wraps – and I want.

My favourite sandwich goes on Stone Mill Bakeries Walnut Bread (or anything grainy and brown in a pinch). I like to take some baked ham (left over, usually, and it will have cloves studded in it and some pineapple juice or mandarin orange glaze still clinging to it), and slice it kind of thick (though thinner than my pinky finger). Then, I like to mix a little raspberry jam with some mayonnaise, and smear the pretty pink stuff on the bread, and add a layer of baby spinach leaves. SOMETIMES, if I’m feeling crazy? Thinly sliced Granny Smith apples too.

I want one now, and I don’t have the stuff….waaaah!

This is making me hungry too! I hope I’m a winner, I’ve been curious to try these things, but not willing to fork out the bucks yet.

My favorite is Tuna Salad Sandwich on anything but plain white bread, probably because I don’t get to have it that often. I have it today on sourdough bread for lunch.

Drain 1 can of flaked white tuna in water, flick out of can with fork, shake in celery salt, pepper and a dash of salt, put in a little mayonnaise at a time (you don’t want too much), mix and add more seasoning to taste. Add in diced onions and celery, refrigerate for a good hour or so. Spreads nicely onto two sandwiches, lettuce is optional.

I’m so impressed with the environmentally-friendly wraps!

My favourite sandwich is peanut butter – chunky if you’re feeling adventurous – slathered on a slice of thick, white bread (enriched, of course). Then, cut a banana at an angle, creating oblong slices about an inch thick to stick to the peanut butter. Drizzle with liquid honey and top with another slice of bread. This was my favourite treat sandwich as a kid (and still is!).

At the risk of looking like I am copying Alison, my favourite is also the Grilled cheese with Pesto. I even wrote a post about it a few months ago. It is to die for. And I make mine with St Alberts Mozzarella. Only the best ;)

I really want lunch now…

I have a couple of favorites:

Grilled Cheese and Ham on Raisin Bread: Take two generous slices of bakery raisin bread (not the cardboard supermarket kind!) and spread with real butter, layer some black forest or old fashioned ham with cheddar/swiss/havarti/jack (I use whatever I have handy) and sprinkle with a tiny bit of cinnamon. The trick to getting the sandwich to stick together is: bread/cheese/ham/cheese/bread. Grill and serve with Bick’s sweet mixed pickles and a glass of ice cold milk.

Turkey Wrap:
Spread plain cream cheese on a tomato or spinach wrap, add thinly sliced smoked turkey, chopped red and green peppers, shredded cheese and a dollop of salsa. Roll and enjoy!

Well, I missed the “Tastes like Canada” on CBC, so here is my favourite sandwich (an old family recipe).

Homemade white bread, creamy peanut butter and sliced dill pickles.

Now that I am older, we don’t eat peanuts in our house, but I have found that sunflower seed butter and sliced dill pickles is almost as good.

We are very particular in this household…
I love balogna and mustard sandwich, but never eat them because balogna is questionable… but its a youth comfort food.
I enjoy peanut butter and banana or egg sanwiches.
Yes, i am THAT wild. (not)

My daughter is very plain. She likes her sandwiches plain as well. She insists on having ham, cheese, salad, mayo. She will recite it in that order.
Her little particularities with bread are that some things you MUST put on toasted bread while others are not allowed on toasted bread. For example, cheese whiz is ONLY allowed on bread. Peanut butter can vary between toasted or untoasted depending on the day. margarine is preferred on untoasted because it melts on toasted.

Her favorite snack is a half-sandwich, and it must be made according to the specifications of the day! hahahah

I would love to have one of those sandwich wraps!

I am abstaining from bread and cheese (and alcohol and pasta, etc…) as an experiment, and I have to say that these comments are making me crave. A lot.
I have nothing amazing to add to the sandwich discussion, but I do have to add that I bought three of said sandwich wraps for my kids and we would recommend them. The kids chose their own patterns, can easily take them apart and re-attach them, and are quite proud of their contribution to the earth. Whomever wins will be a lucky duck.

Toasted sesame bagel (still warm), a little bit of mayo, lettuce, oven roasted deli sliced chicken, havarti, tomato, and the driest /spiciest salami I can find.

It’s my Saturday lunch 85% of the time, and the kids think it’s tasty too. Mmm comfort food.

A favourite sandwich depends on the time of year. A turkey sandwich with dressing and mayo around Thanksgiving, a summertime toasted tomato sandwich or lobster roll, a hot cuban sandwich with pulled pork smoked turkey, manchango cheese and pickles on a crisp rainy day… There are so many yummy ones. However, THE best sandwiches are always made for you by a loved one, never the same, always full of surprises.

My favourite sandwich is a grilled pita with goat cheese, pesto, and ripe summer tomato. Mmmm! I found this concoction at Chez Eric in Wakefeild Quebec and have made it more than a few times at home. Unfortunately my daughter has a nut allergy so I haven’t had one for quite some time (and don’t see one in my near future either).

Well, I don’t have a Canadian address so I can’t win. But one of my favorites is a meatloaf sandwich. Whenever we have left over meat loaf the next day I always make some thin slices. I put those on white bread with some mayo/miracle whip. Yeah, white bread isn’t very nutritious, but it is what we always had when we were kids. Oh and the meatloaf has to be cold. :)

I’m not a huge sandwich fan, but when I get a craving it’s for this:

rare roast beef on a really fresh multigrain bun/slice of bread, slathered in mayo (the full fat stuff), a bit of horseradish, arugula, salt and pepper. Yummy.

I have never seen something like the reusable sandwich wraps. What a great idea because really I am so sick of washing ziplock bags and re-using because reusable containers don’t always fit conveniently in lunch bags. Well my favourite sandwich is egg salad with avocado on fresh bread. Boil some eggs, peel off the shell and put the egg through an egg slicer (carefully remove the egg to keep the egg shape in tacked and re-cutting it through the egg slicer in the opposite direction) Mix up with a little mayo, mustard, chopped onion, salt/pepper to taste. Either slice some ripe avocado slices or mush it up a bit and put egg and avocado between some slices of bread and ready to eat. yummy.

Mmmm…my favorite sandwich is pretty basic, but I love it. I could eat it every day…two slices of whole wheat bread (I love the Ancient Grains from Dempster’s), spread with mayo and sprinkled with Epicure’s Lemon Dilly Dip Mix…then add sliced turkey, avocado, tomatoes and some cheddar. SO GOOD. Even better enjoyed with a Coke…if I still drank the stuff.

My favourite sandwich is the traditional Montreal smoked meat sandwich, on rye bread with mustard. So sad to live so far from that wonderful city now. I have to make do with sliced turkey breast on a toasted bagel with cheese, lettuce and mayo. Yum!

Since I became a grown up my favorite sandwich is thinly sliced Swiss Emmenthal on Klosterbrott bread, plenty of Deli mustard and a handful of arugula. A far cry from my favorite sandwich as a kid – peanut butter and shallot (with lots of salt), I’m getting heartburn just thinking about it. I’m going to trot on over to The Bodhi Chicklet and write a little something about this too. I just clued into these wrappers from Mir’s website, ordered a bunch and also some for Christmas presents. Surprise, surprise – they are coming from Ottawa!

Growing up, my fave was grilled cheese made with white bread and a cheese slice, pressed fairly flat in the frying pan. Sometimes my Mum would make a whole whack of them in the oven on a cookie sheet, nice & toasty, not so flat, but still tasty! As an adult I would have to say my favourite is a pork roast bun. When I was pregnant 10 yrs. ago with our first I craved these. Take one Kaiser roll spread with Miracle Whip, sprinkle with black pepper, pile on the roast pork (from the Butchery in Bell’s Corners at their deli). I haven’t had one in a few years-now you’ve got me craving it all over again!

I was (mostly) vegetarian for a few years when I got pregnant with my son. After that I had uncontrollable cravings for the greasy kind of meat (like sausages, salami, etc.). I discovered my favourite sandwich during this pregnancy at Thyme and Again: Calabrese (capicolla ham, soprasetta, Provolone cheese, red onion, & spicy eggplant finished with a lemon herb mayonnaise). Yum!

Hmmm…so many to choose from!

My favourite sandwich would have to be a well-toasted sesame bagel (from Kettleman’s!) with cream cheese, smoked salmon and slices of cucumber. Oh yum!!

(The runner up would be an easy grilled cheese sandwich made with aged cheddar and sliced Granny Smith apples. MMmmm…)
