What can you make out of a large cardboard box?

Answer: lots of things!
- You can make a house or a hideaway. Use a box cutter and add windows (with shutters!) and a mail slot. Make it extra comfy with the addition of some pillows and blankets.
- A rocket ship
- A lemonade stand or a carnival booth (here’s a site that sells plans for one!)
- A robot costume
- An adorable cardboard stove
- … and there are more ideas here too (airplane! fridge! mailbox!)
One of my most favourite things we made with a big cardboard box was a shadow puppet theatre. It was pretty easy, and very satisfying. I sliced off one side of it, taped up some translucent freezer paper, and voila!
The craft I wrote about for Canadian Family Magazine this week also uses a cardboard box, but it’s a little different because it uses a flat box instead (making it much easier to store) and better yet, requires small helpers to do the bulk of the work. Ha ha!
