reminder

“Mummy, tell me again, why is there a stickie note inside our medicine cabinet?”
“It’s a kind of reminder.”
“To do what?”
“To take one minute for myself.”
“One minute? For what?”
“To take my vitamin D and a big drink of water to go with it. To stand up really straight and tall while I brush my teeth. To put on sunscreen in the morning. To breath deeply and to fill my lungs.”
“That’s a lot of stuff to remember.”
“It is, and that’s why I need that stickie note. And I think if I timed myself I’d discover it all takes a little longer than one minute, but not by much.”
“Parents are weird.”
“Yes we are.”

*sigh*

I remember when I used to work at a desk job and Microsoft Office was just invented (or we just got it as part of our office staples, I don’t remember) it was recommended by the senior colleagues to schedule into the handydandy reminder system to ‘take lunch’.

I remember thinking who needs to be reminded to take lunch? And then I worked there for a few months and…click. The penny dropped. LOL

So…nice note!! I like. Is it working?

Thank you Carly!
Javamom - I’ve had it up for awhile now. Totally works for me, mostly because I can’t ignore it and it makes it impossible to forget!

The Obligatory Blurb

Thank you for visiting! My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (14) and Sarah (12). I've been blogging since 1999, which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran of the Canadian blog scene, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I am the Managing Editor of Capital Parent Newspaper but also make my living doing a bunch of other fun things. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for parents and kids. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
