DIY snakes

Posted by andrea tomkins in: File under crafty

Snakefest! It’s [almost!] November. And November means drafts.

*shiver*

(I know, our home should be much more energy efficient than it is. But hey, that’s what happens when you live in a house that was built in 1942.)

I was thinking of making a simple draft stopper snake (instructions here). Anyone care to craft along? i.e. You make a snake, I make a snake, we compare snakes (whose is the snakiest? the prettiest? the scariest?), we can discuss the challenges associated with snakemaking (using lentils, marshmallows, old socks for stuffing) etc etc.

Perhaps we could host a snake-off or a snakefest? Or photograph our snakes while they protect us from unwanted drafts? (Will a draft stopper snake eat dust bunnies? Please tell me they do.)

Who’s in? Anyone? You may consider this a sewing meme. ;)

I use my draft snakes at the front of the stove and fridge to keep cat toys from getting under the appliances. There are few things more likely to make me nutty than a cat whining for its toy while I’m working on supper.

Maybe I could sign up for your challenge and teach the small one how to sew. (Did you hear, “Danger, Will Robinson”? I think I did. :+) When shall we share pics?

Yay! One person is stepping up to the challenge so far. I didn’t want to be here all by my lonesome. :)

As for a deadline – I dunno. How long do you think we’ll need?

Andrea – I would love to sign up for this – but I need a few weeks at least. Maybe I could play along vicariously? The kids would love to do this and I’d like to take them along to get fabric etc.

What about if we set a deadline of Nov 18?

I’m struggling with drafts of a different sort. No snake solution, so sadly I’m out. But can’t wait to see the results. Sew on sisters (and brothers), sew on!

I’m TOTALLY in! As I think you know, I just got my ol’ (well it’s new) sewing machine going and I need a project so this will be my first. Hey, I might be making some Xmas gifts in the process too…..woot (to steal your expression).

How is everyone doing on this wee project? I keep writing it on my daily to do list but haven’t started yet…I’m still in but it looks like I might be pulling an all nighter over the weekend (kidding).

Melissa: We’re still on!
All I have going is a plan… in my head… and a rough idea as to where the bag of fabric might be, but we’re still on!

To be honest, I haven’t been able to get to this because I’ve been watching too much TV! Mark and I have been plowing through season 1 of Heroes on DVD. But we’re done now and I have my evenings back.

How funny…none of us did this? Shall we do something new in the new year?

I think you’re right on. I’m not inspired at the moment. Or maybe it will strike when I dig out my sewing machine… we’ll see.
