Good and bad along Somerset

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Oh! Things!| Ottawa| Photography

Guess who didn't want to be here?

[ETA: one more photo below]

Emma and Sarah each had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. I pulled them out of school early and we set out. It was booster time for Sarah (late, I know).

Check out Sarah’s artistic interpretation of what went down. It’s quite detailed and accurate. Poor kid.

The doctor’s office is just off Somerset (our “Chinatown”) and since we were already there I promised that we’d have bubble tea afterwards.

Sarah got to pick the flavour: chocolate mint with pearls.

Bubble tea

After that we went to one of my favourite shops in the area, Global Homeware. It’s a small store with a large (and sometimes strange) array of imports. Your eyes hurt from it all, the figurines, Hello Kitty, origami papers, chopsticks, Japanese plush, notebooks, pencils, moth balls, rice cookers, dishes… it’s exhausting and fun.

Shopping

Lucky for us, they were having a sale.

The girls each picked out a new wallet. I picked out a wasabi-green leather Totoro pencil case ($7.99) and a red Paul Frank bowling-style bag ($19.99).

purchases

When we got home Emma loudly speculated about my purse-buying habits.

“Mummy,” she said. “You buy a purse, wear it a lot, and then never wear it again. Why is that?”

That my dear, I cannot answer.

Sorry about the booster shot.

But thanks for the heads up on the store, that looks like one cool place to make some fun purchases.

It’s stocking stuffer city, isn’t it? I am totally coming back to do some Christmas shopping. Sans children, of course. ;)

[...] Yesterday I wrote about recreating one of our favourite restaurant meals, specifically, a top-notch burger and fries. Today I’m focusing on something a little different: bubble tea. What is bubble tea? Well, it’s a sweet drink of Asian origin. We buy it whenever we’re visiting Somerset (and when we go to the doctor’s). [...]

The Obligatory Blurb

Thank you for visiting! My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (14) and Sarah (12). I've been blogging since 1999, which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran of the Canadian blog scene, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I am the Managing Editor of Capital Parent Newspaper but also make my living doing a bunch of other fun things. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for parents and kids. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
