Someone we know has a birthday

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

What can I tell you about this girl, other than the fact that she is a kindhearted soul who makes me laugh,
is generous and kind and
has her own style
and loves to write
and draw
and sing
and peel off a funny rhyme
and run and jump
make lemonade in the summer
and hot chocolate in the winter
and likes to barrel [...]

Gardening, part 1

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

The arrival of the robins makes it official. It’s Spring, and that means I’m itching to see things growing around the house.
Our Easter tree (really just branches snipped from our lilac tree) is getting green buds. It is [...]

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

This is a placeholder for a coming post about our recent camping experience at Silent Lake in which I will answer important questions like: DID THEY FREEZE, and HOW DID THEY WASH and WHAT DID THEY DO THERE and HOW BADLY DID THEY STINK WHEN THEY GOT BACK.
Stay tuned!

The Obligatory Blurb

Thank you for visiting! My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (14) and Sarah (12). I've been blogging since 1999, which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran of the Canadian blog scene, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I am the Managing Editor of Capital Parent Newspaper but also make my living doing a bunch of other fun things. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for parents and kids. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here.
