Effervescent
writerly girl seeks opportunity to put pen to paper.
Writing style is alternately described as humourous,
flippant and offbeat. If
you have a publishing adventure you'd like to share,
drop
this girl a line.

Sorry
for the lack of posts. Life has been in the way. It's
been pretty busy around here lately.
Mark's
parents were here for a few days. It was so nice while
they were here, but now it's time to get back to the
regular routine.
On
Tuesday night Mark and I had a date. Dinner at the Urban
Bistro (soooo good!) and then we went to see the Barenaked
Ladies at the Corel Centre. I have a special affection
for TBL. I saw them at Barrymore's back in '91/92 (?).
I was with friends from Carleton, getting smushed in
the front row. It was so much fun. Ahhhh, youth.
Our
experience at the concert Tuesday didn't start out that
great. To make a long story a little shorter, our seats
were in the 400s. If you're not familiar with the venue
this information won't mean much to you, but you will
have to trust me when I say that this is the very farthest
you can possibly get from the stage. It is at the complete
opposite end from where the stage is set up. And it
is far up. Way way up. In fact, I was slightly fearful
of the need for sudden evacuation.
What
if there's a fire? I asked Mark. Can we even
get down from here? I thought about the elevator
and the looooong corridor we just walked down to get
here.
He
said some nonsense about concrete and steel not being
flammable. I poohpoohed this.
Anyway,
through unscientific means I was able to measure the
distance between us and the stage. The people on stage
were so far away that if I outstretched my arm in front
of me and stuck up my thumb, and squinted my eyes just
so, the musicians were no larger than my thumbnail.
At that distance, you couldn't tell if it was male/female/humanoid.
There
was a jumbo screen, sure there was. But I was using
my mother's opera glasses to watch it.
The
BNL came on stage, and within a couple songs we were
thankfully given the opportunity to 'visit' a level
one box to see the rest of the concert. This made a
huge difference. This meant we were about 12 rows back,
and off to the side. I could see their faces! I could
hear the music properly! I could be part of the crowd
and not feel like an alien observer! I could use our
own private restroom!
It
was great. But it wouldn't have happened if Mary and
Gary weren't here to watch the girls. Thanks again for
helping out!
Anyway,
I have to get back to work. Have a great weekend everyone!
