Fabulous for Words - Shopping, Sex and Sauvignon
Blanc: The (Almost) Daily Misadventures of a Modern
Mom and Writerly Girl. My alter ego, if I drank six
or seven coffees and then followed it up with a couple
chocolate martinis. This site has made me chuckle on
many occasion.

Or how about a vintage Talking
Ken doll? I can think of a million things he can
say in addition to "Let's go to the big game tonight."
Too many jokes can be made here. I will refrain.

It's
-39°C with the windchill this morning. At minus
39 tears will freeze to your face. Unless you are sufficiently
dressed your body starts to lose feeling in minutes.
Exposed skin will stick to metal. (Although I don't
know of any children whose tongues got struck to flagpoles,
I am sure there are cases of it out there) Men with
beards walk around with icicles embedded into them.
Schools refrain from sending the kids out to play at
recess. This is the height and depth of the Ottawa winter.
I
really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. As
the alarm went off I prayed that I would wake up on
some hot, sandy beach somewhere.
p.s.
I put too much bacon in the chowder, and it turned out
to be something akin to bacon soup. After adding the
prescribed three pieces to the pot, I had two lonely
slices remaining in the package. What was I supposed
to do with them? I couldn't just put them back, so I
just dropped them into the soup with their two bacon
brothers. Boy was it yummy.
I
am now officially afraid to step on the scale.

- Mark is understanding of my need to do crafty things.
He was equally understanding of the fact that his screwdriver
was covered with a layer of silicone sealer. I ask you,
how else was I supposed to get the tube unclogged?
Have
a great weekend everyone.

Mmmm.
My house has been smelling yummy all day. And I haven't
added the actual clams yet. (link to the reason is below.)
It's making me hungry.
Unrelated
p.s. to Mark. I promise to clean your screwdriver when
I have a spare moment. Thank you for your patience.
You are a wonderful husband.

It
is a cold cold day here in Ottawa. At the moment it's
-25°C out there. They're calling for a high
of -21°C. Emma and I are staying indoors. Am going
to make this slow-cook
clam chowder and take it easy. No mushrooms for
Mark though.
Yesterday
was almost as cold. As we trudged to school(s) my hat
was pulled down so low and my scarf was pulled up so
high that the only exposed part of my body were the
slits of my eyes. And they froze. Emma sat snugly in
her chariot. Thankdalord for that thing. Without it
a five-minute walk would have taken 25.
The
other day we re-decorated our Christmas tree, (which
had been moved outdoors in the New Year) with large
pinecones covered in peanut-butter-and-seed paste. I
made a star out of toast and perched it on the top.
We hung slices of pink grapefruit and surrounded the
perimeter of the tree with seeds and more toast crumbs.
Whole wheat of course.
It's
been so cold there have hardly been any takers.
