<saturday july 26, 2003 - 8:55 p.m.>

Went to ValVillage again last night. This time I went with a willing accomplice, my good friend Leah.

Forsaking thoughts of husband and children, I made a b-line to the women's section of the store. This shopping trip was going to be all about me, Me ME!

I filled my cart with various clothing. I'm not kidding when I say "filled." In fact, my pile was so high that I could hardly hear my phone ringing underneath it all.

ring ring
Oh, someone's phone is ringing.
ring ring
Wow, does that ever sound far away.
ring ring
Oh, it's mine.

I was looking for cargo-type pants, but somehow ended up with half a cart-full of tops. It's funny, you never find what you're looking for at these places.

I secretly feared that Leah would think poorly of me. What if I freaked her out and she never went shopping with me ever again? :)

I also tried on a really interesting dress that was 98 per cent see-through. It was basically made up of translucent black thread, and a silvery starry pattern reflected off of it when turned at different angles.

It fit, but you know what, I would never have the guts to wear it. That, and I would have to invest some serious cash in a really nice black full-body undergarment. Shopping at ValVillage isn't supposed to cost you a lot of money, and that is what finally convinced me to hang it up with the rest of the rejects. (Of which there were many).

The purchases:

- a light powder-pink sleeveless turtleneck. Ordinarily the word "sleeveless" is not paired with the word "turtleneck." The turtle part is especially poofy. God only knows where I am ever going to wear this. It is one of those items that span completely opposite seasons (read: both winter and summer) but doesn't properly belong in either one. But it is irresistibly soft and I could not leave it there. (Photo here - expressly for KJ!)

- a purple and pink velour long-sleeve shirt with a dragon printed on the front.

- a black dress from Jacob. Paired with a nice blouse this could really look awesome, but now I just have to find the blouse.

- a teeny furry sleeveless dark purple top. Cool around the neckline... but again, totally impractical.

- a knee-length, hot pink and orange floral summer skirt

Everything else was utterly dismal on me, but I feel like I walked away with some good stuff. And that's what really counts, right? :)

When I got back about two hours later, Mark asked me where we went.

"Uh, Value Village."
"That's it?"
"Yes."
"You've been there this whole time?"
"Yes."
"Seriously?"
"It takes a long time to shop there ..."

He just doesn't get it. And I was hurrying too!

Anyway, have a good week everyone... once again I'm taking a short leave from this page. I'll be back next week. Take care!

<thursday july 24, 2003 - 10:30 p.m.>

The thing about unemployment is that you never know what day it is.

It's Thursday, and I only know that because it says so on my computer.

I shouldn't kvetch so much about employment issues. Some exciting things are brewing in this department, but for fear of jinxing it I will keep it to myself until something definitive happens.

Let's just say I'm working on a little project, and enjoying myself immensely. This has left me little time for anything else.
